Farmers' Day: Idugel's vital contribution to Agriculture

Farmer's Day

On July 28th, we celebrate Farmers' Day. A symbolic date that serves as a tribute to those who are behind the food that reaches our tables every day through Agriculture. At the forefront of the transformation of Brazilian agriculture, Idugel plays a central role in this context, providing innovative technologies and solutions that boost the sector's efficiency and productivity. Let's learn a little more about the relevance of agriculture today and Idugel's fundamental role in this scenario.

Agriculture in the 21st Century

Agriculture in the 21st century, like many other industries, is undergoing a profound process of digitalization and automation. artificial intelligence, sensors, drones and other technological innovations are increasingly being incorporated into everyday farming, transforming the way agriculture is carried out. In this context, Idugel positions itself as one of the leaders in offering technological solutions for agriculture, offering state-of-the-art equipment that facilitates the farmer's work and increases production.

Industry Statistics:

Here are some statistics about agriculture and the food industry, wheat, corn and rice:

  • Agriculture: According to the IBGE, Brazil's five main agricultural products in terms of production value in 2021 were soybeans, corn, sugarcane, coffee and cotton. The production value of corn was R$116.4 billion, while that of rice was R$19.1 billion.

Wheat

  • According to the statistics found, wheat production in Brazil in 2023 is expected to reach 10.6 million tons, which represents an increase of 7.3% compared to April and 5.5% compared to 2022. In addition, the first survey of planting intentions for the 2023/24 wheat harvest signals a new increase in area, and production may exceed 12 million tons. It is worth mentioning that the 2023 agricultural harvest is expected to total a record 305.4 million tons, 42.2 million more than the 2022 performance.

Corn

  • According to the IBGE, the average yield per hectare of corn in Brazil in 2023 was 1.13 kg. Corn is one of the most important crops in the world, responsible for providing 21% of the calories of harvested food and representing 16% of global cultivation areas. In Brazil, corn is a commodity widely used by the industry, mainly for animal feed, and its planting area has been expanded to meet the demand of external markets, such as China.
  • The IBGE estimates that corn production in Brazil in 2023 will be 118.6 million tons, which represents an increase of 3.4% compared to 2022. In addition, corn is a crop that can be grown organically, aiming to produce healthier food for human and animal health, as well as preserving the environment from the use of pesticides. Projections for Brazilian agribusiness for the next ten years indicate that corn production should grow 1.9% per year, reaching 131.6 million tons in 2031/32.

Rice

  • According to IBGE, the average yield per hectare of rice in Brazil in 2023 was 6.4 kg.
  • Rice production in Brazil in 2023 will be the lowest in the last 20 years, with an estimated harvest of 9.846 million tons, which represents a drop of 7.6% compared to 2022. This drop is the result of a combination of climate problems and a reduction in the area planted with the grain. The drought recorded in Rio Grande do Sul, which accounts for more than two-thirds of national production, directly influenced the country's numbers.
  • There was also a reduction of 51.7% in the area planted with rice over 20 years, while production fell by only 4.7%, due to the increase in the average yield of crops. In addition, rice production is at the limit of consumption, according to IBGE, which may increase the price of the product on the market.
  • Beans, which complement rice on Brazilian families' plates, also had their production estimate reduced by 0.5% between February and March 2023. It is worth noting that the 2023 agricultural harvest should total a record 305.4 million tons, 42.2 million more than the 2022 performance, with emphasis on the production of soybeans, corn and wheat.

It is worth noting that the agricultural industry is moving towards organic farming, which aims to produce healthier food and preserve the environment. Furthermore, globally, the most produced crops are corn, wheat, rice and soybeans, with corn being the most produced crop, with 36.3%.
